Scott Walker
Senior Environmental Scientist/Plant Physiologist
- BSc (Environmental Science & Restoration) 2003 - Murdoch University
- BSc Environmental Science (Honours) (Botany) 2005 - University of Western Australia
Scott is a proficient environmental scientist and plant physiologist with over 10 years experience in the designing, implementing and managing multi-dimensional plant-based monitoring programs.
Scott is a senior environmental scientist and project manager of the plant physiology group at Astron and is responsible for managing a number of plant-water related projects. He has experience in monitoring the quantitative tree water status and health from mining dewatering operations in the northern Pilbara region, monitoring the qualitative assessment of riparian vegetation along the Yule River, Karratha, and the regenerative health of mangrove communities in the West Pilbara. Scott has conducted plant-water relations and physiology work for a number of clients, including BHP Billiton Iron Ore, Water Corporation, Apache Energy Limited and Citic Pacific Mining.
Scott also has experience in soil science with monitoring hydrocarbon and heavy metal contaminants in groundwater, soil and sediment environments throughout the Pilbara region. He has also been involved in monitoring surface and groundwater hydrology, vegetation surveys and site impact assessments, plus developing a number of Environmental Management Plans and Annual Environmental Reports.
Scott's key areas of expertise are implementing sap flow monitoring programs in various Eucalypt species to quantify tree transpiration rates and plant water status. Prior to Astron, Scott was employed at CSIRO Forestry division for 9 years focusing on allometric and biomass studies, soil and plant nutrient analyses and plant physiology.
