Land Rehabilitation

| Case Study 1 | Barrow Island Recalcitrant Species Program |
|---|---|
| Client | Chevron Australia Pty Ltd |
| Location | Barrow Island, North-West Shelf |
Description
Astron developed a current recalcitrant species list and a framework in respect to rehabilitation activities on Barrow Island. Astron also performed a desktop review that focused on understanding the species physiological adaptations to determine why these species have become recalcitrant. The information collated from the desktop review was then incorporated into a management plan outlining pathways and potential trials that could allow the successful rehabilitation of such species on Barrow Island.
| Case Study 2 | Mainland Shore Crossing of SGP |
|---|---|
| Client | Apache Energy Limited |
| Location | Mardie Station - West Pilbara |
Description
Astron was engaged by oil and gas producer Apache Energy to undertake the rehabilitation of the mainland shore crossing area of the Harriet gas pipeline and the Second gas pipeline. The project area dominated by fragile mangrove communities and is subject to large tidal movement and cyclonic impacts, both highly erosive forces. Rehabilitation work involved the construction of erosion barriers, silt and wind fences, back-loading of sand for dune reconstruction and direct seeding and hand planting of coastal species for fast regeneration and dune stabilisation.
