A chemical plant manufacturing herbicides and pesticides was operating out of the Hamcor Pty Ltd industrial property in Grass Valley. A fire occurred onsite with initial emergency remedial works undertaken by a waste disposal contractor. Astron was engaged by Hamcor to undertake a Contaminated Site Investigation (CSI) across the site.
Grid and target sampling strategies were employed to appropriately characterise soil and groundwater at the site. Extensive laboratory analysis was undertaken on representative samples comprising the following:
- Trace metals (As, Be, B, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn)
- Organochlorine and organophosphorous (OC/OP) pesticides
- Glyphosates
- Synthetic pyrethroids
- Phenoxy acidic herbicides
- Triazines
- Carbamates
- Chlorinated Hydrocarbons
- Phenols
- Ammonium thiocyante
- Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds
- Volatile Organic Compounds
