Astron harnesses the power of sap flow technology

Found in: News

Astron successfully utilises sap flow sensors to enable plant water use to be monitored remotely in real time throughout the day.

The data can then be used for monitoring plant health in response to management and environmental conditions, scheduling irrigation requirements, determining ecological water requirements and calculating the contribution of transpiration to the site water balance. Sap flow equipment comprises sensor probes which measure the rate of sap flow in the stem, a data logger, battery and solar panel. With the addition of a modem, data can be accessed from the office at any time.

Sap flow technology is a powerful tool when in the right hands. At Astron, renowned sap flow expert Dr Tim Bleby applies his many years’ experience and technical know-how to fully harness the power of sap flow technology in monitoring and investigation projects.
